Bringing agriculture into the SSbD conversation

AGRO4AGRI’s early engagement with the Network for Safety and Sustainability of Chemicals and Materials (NSC) reflects a strategic move to position agricultural innovation within broader EU sustainability frameworks. NSC has traditionally focused on materials and chemicals, and AGRO4AGRI’s entry introduces a new and timely perspective – agrochemical applications – into the Safe and Sustainable by Design (SSbD) dialogue.

Emerging signs of success

Although formal alignment with SSbD indicators is still ahead, this involvement is helping the project gain visibility within a cross-sectoral community and explore how SSbD principles can be adapted to the specific challenges of agriculture, such as environmental variability, biological complexity, and farmer adoption.

The success here is not in completed integration, but in strategic positioning. AGRO4AGRI is actively contributing to the expansion of SSbD thinking, helping to ensure that future frameworks are inclusive of agricultural realities. It’s a strong example of how early engagement in thematic networks can amplify a project’s relevance and prepare the ground for long-term policy and innovation impact.
